How we take care of our cars, trucks, and other vehicles greatly influences the health of the Grand River. You can do your part to stop pollution at the source by preventing detergents, oil, grease, and gasoline from entering street drains, which lead directly to nearby streams and lakes.

Our 2006 neighborhood revaluation project in progress this summer. The goal of the revaluation is to adjust assessed values to more accurately reflect the property. Accurate and complete information regarding each property is necessary to maintain uniformity and equity of assessments throughout the neighborhoods and the city. During the summer of 2005 our department was able to update the records for approximately 150 properties. Our objective is for a student intern and myself to visit each individual property. The property will be photographed, measured and information gathered from the owner for updating the parcel record. Letters will be sent to property owners scheduled for each phase letting you know when we will be on your street.
Portable swimming pools have become a popular item. It is great that families are enjoying these pools as a fun way to cool off in the summer heat but there are a few things to remember. Out of a concern for safety here are some of the key state and local regulations concerning swimming pools 2’ deep or greater:
Contact Professional Code Inspections at 667-8803 if you plan on installing a pool this summer to obtain the proper permits and ensure you comply with all of the codes.
Most dog owners are responsible when it comes to walking their dogs, but there are some who need this reminder to clean up after them. There is the potential of being charged for a misdemeanor when pets urinate or defecate on any public or private property without the permission of the owner of such property. Please remember to bring a bag and scooper along on walks so you are able to clean up after your dog. This way the rest of the public does not experience any surprise steps or unwanted odors.
The City of Hudsonville has reduced taxes for the Fiscal Year 2007 by one mil. The administration and Hudsonville City Commission are constantly looking for ways in which to save tax payer dollars. We have contracted with Ottawa County for Police Services this year and also contracted out the lawn mowing and computer services. These changes have allowed us to reduce the millage by one mil.
As a result of legislative action by the State of Michigan, the General Property Tax Act has been amended to provide for the following:
If residents notice an increase in their taxes, the reason is the county tax shift which was legislative action by the State of Michigan

Come and hear local author Tracy Groot, Thursday, October 19, 2006, 7 -9 pm, talk about her work, especially her mesmerizing new book, Madman. Here is a description:
If there is a way into madness, logic says there is a way out. Logic says. Tallis, a philosopher’s servant, is sent to a Greek academy in Palestine only to discover that it has silently, ominously, disappeared. No one will tell him what happened, but he learns what has become of four of its scholars. One was murdered. One committed suicide. One worships in the temple of Dionysus. And one … one is a madman.
From the author of The Brother’s Keeper comes a tale of mystery, horror, and hope in the midst of unimaginable darkness, the story behind the Geresene demoniac of the gospels of Mark and Luke.
Refrehments will be served. You can also purchase a copy of Tracy’s book and have her sign it!
