Hudsonville Honey is presenting a program about beekeeping on Saturday, February 22nd from 10:30 to noon (for kids and adults ages 10 and up). Like gardening or raising chickens, beekeeping is a very enjoyable pastime for people who appreciate nature and enjoy being outdoors.
While a common initial reaction might be “why would I want to have a box of thousands of stinging insects in my backyard?” it turns out that honeybees, once properly understood, are actually a very gentle and industrious insect and can provide us with the best sweetener known to mankind - fresh raw honey! We will give a gentle introduction to the fascinating world of beekeeping.
We will talk about the basic biology of the honeybee colony, and discuss and demonstrate the equipment that is required for keeping bees. We will also discuss where to get bees, where bees can be kept, and what you can expect during your first year of beekeeping. No fee.
* No bees will be present.
