City Seeking Applicants for the Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has an open position for an alternate member. If you have any questions about this opportunity, please contact the city's Planning Department. Apply here for this position.

The Zoning Board of Appeals reviews appeals from city codes in circumstances that prohibit compliance. They work through why or if the appeal is needed, taking into consideration the applicant, neighbors, and the city, knowing their decision could be used as a precedent for future projects. The ZBA reviews the information provided to them before the meeting by the Planning and Zoning Department and will go to the site and its surrounding neighborhood to see what impact allowing the appeal would make.

ZBA Meetings are on the third Tuesday of every month and start at 7pm in the City Hall Chambers. They meet an average of 4 times a year, but it could be more or less frequent if there are applications submitted. Alternates are only called upon when regular members cannot attend. The pay is $55 per meeting and you are paid twice a year. Meetings are usually less than an hour in length.
